As we gathered in the sacred space of the Songhees Longhouse, we were honored to receive teachings from Elder Butch Dick. His words resonated with all of us, as he shared the history and some traditions of the Songhees people. His teachings were educational and deeply grounding, reminding us of the importance of connection—to each other, to the land, and to the communities we serve.
The day was filled with team-building activities designed to bring us closer, promote collaboration, and help us reflect on the values that guide our work at IPS. Through games and group discussions, we explored new ways to support one another and strengthen our shared commitment to community education and advocacy.
By the end of the day, our bellies were full, our minds were enriched, and our team felt more connected than ever. We are so grateful to the Songhees Nation for hosting us in their beautiful longhouse, to Elder Butch Dick for his wisdom, and to the Songhees Food Truck for keeping us well-fed throughout the day.
Team Day at Songhees Longhouse was a powerful reminder of the importance of community, culture, and shared experience. As we move forward into the busy months ahead, we carry these lessons with us, renewed and ready to continue our work in the spirit of respect, collaboration, and cultural understanding.
