Indigenous Child and Family Training for Delegated Staff

Indigenous Perspectives Society: Centre of Excellence in Community Education (IPS) offers Indigenous Child and Family Service (ICFS) Training three times per year. Upcoming training dates can be found below.

This training is a requirement for social workers employed by Indigenous Child and Family Serving Agencies (ICFSA). ICFS Training combines best practice in Indigenous child and family support services with B.C. legislation and practice standards. The ICFS Training curriculum is a competency-based model which incorporates skills and abilities that an individual must possess, to practice as a delegated social worker to carry out the various responsibilities, in Voluntary Services, Guardianship and Child Protection.

The ICFS Training program incorporates the Aboriginal Operational and Practice Standards and Indicators (AOPSI), the practice standards developed by Indigenous Child and Family Serving Agencies/Delegated Aboriginal Agencies. There is a field component in the program that builds on classroom experience and grounds practice within the Agencies and community settings. The ICFS Training program is a unique program delivered within the community context of Indigenous Child and Family Serving Agencies, located throughout B.C.
