Formally established in the fall of 2017, the First Nations Housing and Infrastructure Council (FNHIC) is one of the first in the country to create a First Nations Housing and Infrastructure Organization. This is an important step in the path towards Indigenous self-government and autonomy; the FNHIC is tasked with delivering First Nations housing and infrastructure programs in British Columbia, and providing associated housing and infrastructure services. About the Role
This is a remote position, based in either Kamloops or Kelowna. As the Housing Service Delivery Coordinator, you will act as a liaison between First Nation communities in the region and FNHIC. The Coordinator supports FNHIC’s mission by actively engaging and building positive working relationships with First Nations by identifying housing and infrastructure needs in their communities, raising awareness of housing related programs, services, and resources available in the region.
Key Responsibilities
· Developing and maintaining relationships with housing departments, housing providers, and First Nations community leaders in the region.
· Collecting and documenting information on housing related programs, services, initiatives, funding opportunities and events.
· Coordinating meetings between First Nations, housing providers, government representatives and other service organizations with a housing mandate.
· Identifying regional Indigenous housing needs and reporting back to FNHIC’s leadership.
· Participating in a variety of housing initiatives in the region and advocating for the needs of First Nation communities.
· Collaborating with other teams and departments to support the objectives of FNHIC.
What We Are Looking for in the Candidate
· A minimum of 2-years’ experience in a coordinator role with a focus on business development or customer relationships.
· Prior experience working with Indigenous communities, housing authorities or housing providers.
· Excellent communication and organizational skills, time management and a self-starter personality.
· Talent for connecting with people at different authority levels and engaging with diverse audiences.
· Strong working knowledge of online technology and computer programs incl. MS Office Suite.
· Ability to work independently from a home office with frequent travel in the region incl. remote communities (up to 50% of the time). Candidates residing in the Interior BC are preferred.
· A valid BC class 5 driver’s license with satisfactory driver’s abstract, and a reliable vehicle with appropriate auto insurance.
