Indigenous Perspective Society: Centre of Excellence in Community Education (IPS) offers a one-day Fundamentals of Gladue for Communities training specifically designed to equip community members, community representatives and justice workers with a foundational understanding of Gladue requirements, their meaning in law and their importance in practice. Participants will learn when, where and how the requirements apply in the criminal justice process, the different ways Gladue information can impact that process and how to mobilize Gladue to assist community members to manage justice issues and move toward healing. This training provides community members with foundational knowledge of Gladue requirements, how they work and how Gladue can improve the experiences of community members and their families as they navigate the criminal justice system.
Training outcomes:
- The key legal elements of Gladue
- The role and purpose of Gladue at different points in the criminal justice system (e.g., bail, sentencing, parole, etc.)
- How the Gladue requirements are met and best practices in Gladue work
- Where the Gladue requirements apply and how they can impact decision-making
- How to make Gladue work for you and your community
Indigenous Perspectives Society delivers training throughout British Columbia and across Canada. This training is provided to the public and is also offered privately, to interested groups of 10 or more participants. Public trainings are as advertised on our Training Page and can be registered for online at any time. Please visit our Registration Page for more information.
If you are interested in a privately contracted delivery of any of our trainings, please contact Tasman: Tasmanf@ipsociety.ca to inquire about our availability to deliver your desired training, your timeline as to when you would like the training and with any specific customization requests. IPS requires at least one month after contract signing for course preparation.
*Payments to IPS can be made by cheque, EFT, money order or by credit card online via PayPal. Refunds are available before training begins and within the first week of longer programs. Tuition receipts are available on request.
