Recruitment and Retention

On September 30, Artemis Fire, of Indigenous Perspectives Society, will be joining the Administrative Excellence Conference as the presenter of the Recruitment and Retention workshop.

This workshop will introduce some of the knowledge and skills to build the agencies’ capacity to recruit and retain Indigenous peoples. Screening in, as opposed to screen out, and creating an environment where people want to stay is key. We will walk through the interview process, and share with you the best approaches to get the most out of your recruitment efforts. We will introduce some steps towards evaluating your agency’s retention plan.

Make sure you don’t miss this exciting opportunity to hear from Artemis about Recruitment and Retention. Head over to our Administrative Excellence Conference event page for more information on workshops, activities, and registration. We look forward to seeing you at the conference!

Emotional Intelligence

On September 30, Tom Rippon of Camosun College, will be joining the Administrative Excellence Conference as the presenter of the Emotional Intelligence workshop.

Emotional Intelligence has a direct impact on how individuals behave. To be emotionally intelligent is to be fully aware of your own emotions and the emotions of others, and how both impact relationships – how we motivate, influence, empathize, lead, make decisions, become conscientious, and deal with stress. This presentation will address emotional intelligence within the context of productivity in organizations.

Dr. Tom Rippon is full-time faculty at Camosun School of Business and associate faculty at Royal Roads University. He has published and presented papers at national and international conferences, and peer reviewed manuscripts for publication in journals in addition to novels. His research interests include: culture and cultures of peace; governance and security; ethics; environment of business; and human resource management.  With a colleague from England, he co-edited a book on Governance and Security as a Unitary Concept. He writes novels in his spare time and is currently writing the second book of a trilogy – a spy and murder mystery series. Dr Rippon has a Ph.D. from the University of New England, NSW, Australia.

Leadership

On September 30, Lisa Mort-Putland of Volunteer Victoria will be joining the Administrative Excellence Conference as our keynote speaker to talk with participants about Leadership.

During job and volunteer interviews Lisa Mort-Putland, the Executive Director at Volunteer Victoria, often asks candidates what role they play in a team. Most people instinctively say, “I am the leader.” Whether you are an emerging professional, an experienced staff member, or a positional leader you are invited to join Lisa in a friendly conversation to explore the ways that people in the non profit sector design and drive  their own leadership roadmaps.

Lisa Mort-Putland joined the Volunteer Victoria team as Executive Director in June 2011. Lisa holds a B.A. in Drama and a Masters in Public Administration with a focus on non-profit management. Prior to working with VV Lisa was the Development Manager for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Victoria and spent more than 25 years working and volunteering in the museum and heritage sector. Lisa is a board member with the Arbutus Singers Music Education Society and is Board Chair of the Point Ellice House Preservation Society.
