Geographic Catchment Area: Tk’emlups te Secwepemc within the unceded Secwépemcul’ecw, and home of the Two Rivers Metis Society

 

Position Overview:

The Delegated Youth Services Social Worker will provide culturally safe and trauma-informed intensive support services to Indigenous youth aged 16-27 receiving services from the Child Welfare System or Community Living British Columbia (CLBC). The Delegated Youth Services Social Worker serves as the case manager of youth service files of youth residing at Kikékyelc: A Place of Belonging and/or Urban Métis youth residing within Kamloops. As the Case Manager, the Delegated Youth Services Social Worker holds the key to the completion of balanced assessments, the development of and monitoring of case plans, and the determination and monitoring of additional supports. The Delegated Youth Services Social Worker also provides direct support to youth and works collaboratively and respectfully with youth, their natural supports, Elders, and a holistic team of internal and external service providers to strengthen a youth’s capacity to protect, care for and support their independence.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

Case Management

·        Manages the effective implementation of the LMO Michif Practice Model and follows provincial practice standards

·        Completes balanced assessments for youth services.

·        Works collaboratively with youth, their support network and multiple service providers to develop effective prevention services plans.

·        Monitors and evaluates progress towards identified goals and co-ordinates services, completes, and monitors referrals and responsibilities of other resources and members of a youth’s care team.

·        Provides direct one-to-one support to youth to support progress towards identified goals.

·        Assesses the need for more intrusive interventions and provides rationale for assessment.

·        Closes files in accordance with the LMO Michif Practice Model and coordinates honouring celebrations for youth and their support networks.

·        Maintains clear and accurate documentation, reports, and records.

·        Consults with the Michif Youth Services Team Leader and receives Team Leader approval at all key case planning and decision-making points.

·        Respects confidentiality

·        Required to perform mandated delegated youth services.

·        Performs other related duties as required.

Community Development

·        Develops positive working relationships with community partners.

·        Participates in agency activities, gatherings, and celebrations.

·        Other duties as assigned or required.

The Delegated Youth Services Social Worker should demonstrate competence in the following:

Skills and Abilities:
·        Excellent interviewing and needs assessment skills.

·        Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

·        Strong Case Management ability

·        Proficiency in the use of computer programs for word processing, spreadsheets, email, and the internet to the intermediate level (capable of using a large number of functions and feel confident using the program)

·        Strong oral and written, interpersonal and communication skills.

·        Knowledge of child development, impacts of intergenerational trauma, and the principles of reconciliation as it relates to child and family services.

·        Recognizes and respects cultural diversity and has knowledge of Métis culture.

 

Qualifications:

·        Completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Child & Youth Care, or related field

·        Currently holds or eligible for full child protection delegation (may be required to attend delegation training)

·        Minimum 2 years related experience working with families in the social services field.

·        Experience working with Indigenous peoples.

·        Experience working in a non-profit organization.

 

Working Conditions:

·        Travel in this position is required.

·        Potential for violence in the workplace

·        Ability to perform the requirements of the job, which include working independently with Indigenous youth who may experience cognitive delays and/or challenges with substance misuse, mental health, or other trauma-related behaviours.

·        Supervision received – frequent consultation with a direct supervisor with the directive and regular review of the work performed. Must comply with the expectations of the Michif Practice Model.

 

Conditions of Employment:

·        Must be able to obtain and maintain a Criminal Records Check

·        Must have and maintain a valid BC Driver’s license.

·        As per Section 16 of the Federal Charter of Human Rights Act, preference will be given to applicants of Indigenous Ancestry.

 

Compensation:

·        Wage: $38.20-48.88 per hour (determined by delegation level). Classification: Aboriginal Delegated Social Worker (SPO 24) of the BCGEU Indigenous Services Collective Agreement. Benefits and pension following 90 days of FT employment.

·        BCGEU Indigenous Services Employees are entitled to receive a retention bonus at the end of each fiscal year (until expiration of collective agreement)
