Position Overview:
The Michif Behavioural Interventionist will provide intensive, consistent one-to-one support to youth with neurodiversity, trauma histories, and complex needs. The Michif Behavioural Consultant will serve as the case manager for youth service files requiring behavioural intervention and will work collaboratively with the internal care team members in alignment with the Michif Practice Model. The Michif Behavioural Interventionist will create, implement, and monitor client plans, and determine and monitor additional supports. The Michif Behavioural Interventionist works collaboratively and respectfully with youth, their natural supports, Elders, and a holistic team of internal and external service providers to teach and strengthen essential life skills, explore employment and educational readiness, and build social-emotional skills that support youth in their transitions to independent living.

Key responsibilities of the Behavioural Interventionist include:
• Manages the effective implementation of the LMO Michif Practice Model
• Provides intensive, consistent one-to-one direct support services (physical, emotional, intellectual, and spiritual) to teach and strengthen basic life skills such as maintaining a household, shopping within a limited budget, and cooking nutritious meals, securing identification documents, exploring employment and educational readiness programs and opportunities, learning and implementing social and emotional skills which managing emotions such as anger, problem solving, conflict resolution and developing healthy relationship with others.
• Provides one-to-one direct support services to youth who are or have been involved in the child welfare system or receiving services through CLBC and are often victims of trauma by supporting regulation through moments of crisis, including intention of self-harm, suicide, or substance use. Supports youth to overcome moments of unsafe or elevated behaviour through culturally safe and trauma-informed practice.
• Develops and implements issue-specific behavioural intervention plans within the LMO Michif Practice Model
• Supports youth to identify hardships and develop plans to overcome them.
• Develops, modifies, and evaluates client plans inline with the Michif Practice Model in collaboration with a youth’s natural support network and case management team. Regularly participates in integrated case management meetings to report clients’ activities and progress.
• Evaluates the effectiveness of the plans, reports on a youth’s progress, and discusses related concerns with the internal care team to resolve identified problems and move towards defined goals and objectives.
• Outlines services provided and provides information on and referral to other community service providers, resources and professionals as required.
• Liaises with and/or promotes the interests of youth with other community service providers, professionals as required.
• Maintains regular records and provides reports to the team leader on a consistent basis.
• Consults with team leader and/or delegated social worker and receives approval at all key case planning and decision-making points
• Transports clients to and from appointments, community events/gatherings, and other community resources as required.
• Develops positive working relationships with community partners
• Participates in agency activities, gatherings, and celebrations
• Other related duties as assigned or required

Qualifications:
• Completion of a diploma in the field of Child Development, Child and Youth Mental Health, Child and Youth Care, or a related field
• A minimum of two years related work experience working with children/youth with neurodiversity and/or trauma
• Demonstrated experience delivering culturally safe services and working respectfully with Indigenous Peoples.
Working Conditions:
• Travel in this position is required
• Potential for violence in the workplace
• Ability to perform the requirements of the job, which includes working independently with individuals who have experienced trauma, may be receiving services from the child welfare system, experience cognitive delays and/or challenges with substance misuse, mental health, or other trauma-related behaviours
• Supervision received – frequent consultation with the direct supervisor, with a directive and regular review of the work performed. Must comply with the expectations of the Michif Practice Model.
Conditions of Employment:
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a Criminal Records Check
• Must have a reliable vehicle and maintain a valid BC Driver’s license
• As per Section 16 of the Federal Charter of Human Rights Act, preference will be given to applicants of Indigenous Ancestry.
Compensation:
• $40.03-$50.59 per hour. Grid 14-P of the BCGEU Indigenous Services Collective Agreement Wage Grids. Benefits and pension following a successful 90-day probationary period.
