Summary

Reporting to the Health Supervisor, and working closely with the Patient Travel Clerk, the COHI/Patient Travel Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting the Children’s Oral Health Initiative (COHI) and the Patient Travel Program.  Key responsibilities include obtaining authorization to enroll children in COHI, applying fluoride varnish, organizing dental health events, providing oral health education, and assisting dental professionals. Additionally, the assistant supports the Patient Travel Clerk with client intake, paperwork, and emergency responses. Essential skills for this role include compassion and empathy for our community members, strong communication, organizational abilities, and proficiency in relevant software.

What you will do

COHI Support

Obtains authorization from families to enroll children in COHI.
Applies fluoride varnish to children’s teeth.
Organizes and participates in community events to promote dental health, including school and daycare brushing programs.
Provides dental care education to families, including one-on-one oral health education for children and adults, such as prenatal advice packages.
Supports the Dental Therapist and/or Dental Hygienist in the community by:
Sterilizing and cleaning before and after each client.
Prepping the dental room before patients.
Filing charts and assisting with charting as needed.
Scheduling appointments.
Attends annual refresher training for varnishing provided by the FNHA.
Patient Travel Support

Assists the Patient Travel Clerk with activities such as client intake, paperwork, filing, and data entry.
Helps respond to patient travel emergencies.
Administration

Accurately and promptly completes time sheets.
Actively participates in all staff meetings.
Qualifications: Education and Experience

High school degree or equivalent combined schooling and experience.
Some experience working in an administration or office environment is an asset.
FNHA COHI Aid training completed – or willing to obtain.
